Heartening news : The nation's leading scientific body, the CSIRO, has undermined Prime Minister John Howard's position on climate change by advising that big cuts in greenhouse gas emissions appear to be both inevitable and affordable for Australia. (click The Age for full story)
Yarra Climate Action Now is an independent community group based in inner-city Melbourne made up of individuals who are concerned about the climate crisis. We are pushing for the urgent worldwide action needed to avoid runaway climate change and the associated impacts. We are interested in the possibility of making a difference in the community through education, lobbying, workshops and other activities. We are part of the Climate Emergency Network and a national network of grassroots climate action groups. This blog will be a place for us to talk about climate change issues, exchange ideas, link to information and hopefully open a world of possibilities.
Please feel free to leave comments, ask questions or make suggestions - community input is always appreciated!
Send us an email if you want to join our announcements list or get involved in our activities.
Our general meetings are on the second Wednesday of the month in Fitzroy.
DONATE TO YCAN We are run entirely by volunteers and receive no funding from corporate or government sources. We need your support to keep up the campaign for a safe climate future. You can donate via electronic transfer to:
Local Practical Action - To transition Yarra to zero carbon emissions and 100% renewable energy neighbourhoods.
Community Engagement - To work with all sectors of the community in education, engagement and developing solutions to the climate emergency.
Political Change - To take peaceful political action and create a movement for political change in conjunction with the broader climate action movement.
